The Redefinition of Style: Beckley Boutique, a 21st century version of an original family business.

What happens in Vegas does not necessarily stay in Vegas. Case in point: Beckley Boutique. The boutique first opened in 1908 by owner Melissa Richardson’s great-grandfather. It was the premier destination for menswear in Sin City. However, nearly 70 years after the original, Melissa Richardson revived the family business in Los Angeles. And this time Beckley Boutique is strictly catering to the Ladies. The boutique will feature women’s ready-to-wear, evening wear and as well as accessories and shoes from both top designers and emerging talent. According to B|W|R Public Relations, “Owner and entrepreneur Melissa Richardson aims to provide an unsurpassed level of style and carefully tailored and personalized services found luxury stores of the early 20th century. Paying homage to her paternal great-grandfather by opening the modern day version of an original family business.” Richardson says “There’s a void in the market when it comes to luxury shopping today. The new Beckley will bring back that classic level of premier customer service that’s almost impossible to find. I want patrons to walk through the doors and feel as though they’re a guest in my home – they can sip on coffee in the lounge, enjoy a glass of champagne in the outdoor garden and find well-known designers like Zac Posen and Catherine Malandrino, emerging designers like Hari, Bodyamr, and Ruffian, as well as fabulous vintage and one-of-a-kind items I’ve discovered on my travels, all under one roof.” It is clear that Melissa Richardson is pushing to bring back the glamour and intimacy people first had in the early 20th century. However, I do wonder if perhaps Los Angeles is not the right city for such a store like Buckley Boutique? The city isn’t profoundly known for it fashion forward dolls nor Zac Posen wearing men, Rather greatly known for its urban street wear, hollywood social scene and beach bunnies. Perhaps New York would have been a wiser choice for Richardson. Regardless, glamour and poise is creeping into a neighborhood near you Angelenos, Melrose Avenue to be exact.
